Rockwell often paints the funniest moment in a story. Rather than picture the boys swimming in the forbidden pool, Rockwell paints the moment when the boys have been discovered and are frantically trying to put their clothes back on as they race from the scene of the crime.

Rockwell’s paintings celebrated ordinary, everyday life. Rockwell’s stories about swimming holes, gossiping, family vacations, and barbershops are not what you read about in newspaper headlines and history textbooks.

Rockwell painted scenes from the daily life of ordinary people.
